It's not surprising, therefore, that bikepacking has become an increasingly popular way to holiday in recent years. Another reason is the growing popularity of e-bikes and gravel bikes, which make it possible for a larger number of people to cover long distances. Flexibility and spontaneity are also plus points. Whether you stay in a tent or prefer to spend the night in a guesthouse or hotel is entirely up to you. Europe is covered by a network of long-distance cycling routes from the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the North and Baltic Seas as well as within countries. You have the choice of cycling on the flat along rivers or conquering mountains in the Alps and Pyrenees - it's really up to you.

If you are planing your own route, you need to pay particular attention to the types of paths you use. With a normal touring bike, you should only ride on tarmac cycle paths and avoid mountain bike trails and busy roads. Gravel bikers have more options available to them.
