In northern Scandinavia, this is between 500 m and 900 m – and yet here we find vegetation of low trees, heather and lichens that we only find in the Alps, for example, at an altitude of 1500 m.
The Swedish Hiking Association STF (Svenska Turistföreningen) takes care of the maintenance of the Kungsleden and other hiking trails in Nodschweden. The STF also manages cabins and the popular fjällstationer (mountain stations), which offer simple ¨overnight accommodation in the wilderness.

Fernwanderwege und Pilgerwege in Schweden
Wer im spirituellen Geiste wandern oder den Weg zu sich selbst finden möchte, ist in Schweden genau richtig! Vor allem in Småland kann man alten Pilgerpfaden folgen. Sie sind Teil des großen Pilgerwegenetzes zwischen dem spanischen Santiago de Compostola und dem norwegischen Trondheim und verbinden auf einzigartige Weise Geschichte und unberührte Natur. Eine der wichtigsten Stationen auf dem Weg durch den hohen Norden ist das Zisterzienserkloster Nydala, das älteste Kloster Schwedens.
Der Pilgerweg St. Olavsleden startet in Westschweden und endet in Norwegen. Es ist der weltweit nördlichste Pilgerweg. Auf knapp 600 km führt euch der St. Olavsweg vom schwedischen Selånger bis ins norwegische Trondheim, dabei genießt ihr beim Wandern eine beeindruckende Landschaft mit schönen Wäldern, Bergen und Seen.
