Getting Started with the Outdooractive App
The Outdooractive app is available to download free of charge in the App Store, Google Play Store, and the Huawei AppGallery. This overview aims to help you familiarize yourself with its layout and main features.
The start screen
The map remains the heart of Outdooractive, and for that reason, the Outdooractive app opens directly to the map view. With the latest update, however, the experience has become even more intuitive and content-rich thanks to a newly introduced split-screen layout. The map now shares the screen with a dynamic bottom sheet, which displays content snippets related to the current map area. These snippets can include tours, places of interest, accommodations, and more—making it easier than ever to explore what’s around you. Tapping on any of the content snippets will bring up more detailed information.
1. Search bar & Hamburger menu:
The search bar can be used to locate content on our platform. You can input keywords to locate places, regions, mountain peaks, accommodation, and more. These can be displayed both as a list and directly on the map. You will be prompted with the options to 'Start plan here', 'Route to here', or 'Create new Point', you can click anywhere on the map to close these options.
The side menu gives quick access to content categories like “Routes & Places,” as well as to collections, offers, challenges, and settings where you can manage offline content and connect to third-party services like Garmin.
2. Locate me button:
With GPS on, tap this to center on your current location. A second tap aligns the map to your viewing direction, and a third deactivates it.
3. Main menu
The main menu is located below the map and consists of the following 5 menu items:
- Map
- Plan
- Track
- Discover
- My page
4. Offline storage:
Pro and Pro+ members can download map sections for offline use in different styles and with specific data layers—perfect for use in remote areas.
5. Filter Panel
Above the map, you’ll find a filter bar that allows you to refine the visible content. You can toggle between types of content like Routes, Partners, Accommodation, and more. The filters directly influence both what is shown as icons on the map and the content snippets listed below in the bottom sheet. This makes it easier to tailor your view to your current interests or planning needs.
6. Compass:
Located in the top right, the compass aligns the map to the north when tapped. When GPS is active and the map is aligned, it expands to show your current coordinates and elevation. You can copy or share this data easily.
7. Map Area with Content Marker Icons
The map area remains interactive and central to your experience. Content is now marked with icon pins—each representing different types of experiences or services (e.g. hiking routes, cycling tours, lodging, etc.). These icons give you a quick visual reference and are fully clickable: tapping one reveals details and highlights the matching entry in the content list below.
8. Map layers selection:
Tap the stack of three-squares icon at the bottom right of the screen to open the 'Map layer panel'. The selection of maps and layers that you have here will depend on your subscription. You can choose a basic map, a map style (summer, winter or satellite view) an activity network and various additional map layers (slope, photos, notices & closures, avalanche situation, webcams). So you have the possibility to choose the right map with the right additional layers for every occasion.
9. Bottom Sheet with "Show content/Hide content"
With "Show Content" you can see all content on the map that is available in the map section - whether routes, places to visit, accommodations or events. Use the filter to narrow down your search and get even more specific results. "Hide content" collapses the bottom sheet and map hides map marker icon on the map. This view allows you to focus entirely on the map itself.
10. Bottom Sheet with Content Snippets
The bottom part of the screen houses a scrollable content list. It shows snippets of content that relate to the current map area, offering previews with names, distances, difficulty, duration, elevation gain, and more. Each snippet links directly to a detailed content page or tour overview.
