A well-deserved popular emblem: the adjectives given to Long are not exaggerated. ‘Large church’: standing tall, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, whose bell tower dates back to the 16th century, indeed has basilica-like dimensions. Still ringing the Angelus, it houses a classified organ by the maker Cavaillé-Coll. ‘Beautiful castle’: of pure Louis XV style, it is a folly as they called these elegant houses nestled in greenery in the 18th century. ‘Head in the fields’: image evoking the heights of Long overlooking the town. ‘Feet in the water’: another metaphor recalling the constant presence of this element in the valley. And if you add the annual and renowned Saint-Jean fire, you understand that the people of Long find much charm in their village.
