The bastide town of Mirepoix, a little architectural gem in the Ariège, has always enjoyed an exceptional position between Foix and Carcassonne. A rainbow of colours, its gentle way of life charms and bewitches travellers as they pass the ramparts.

The beautiful bastide town of Mirepoix, between Foix and Carcassonne, was rebuilt according to the regular plans of bastides after a major flood in 1289. The Place des couverts is home to some superb half-timbered houses built on wooden galleries.
