In den Räumen des 1904 im Jugendstil erbauten Volksbad präsentiert das Kunstmuseum Heidenheim Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen mit zeitgenössischer Kunst. Hierbei wird Wert darauf gelegt, ein möglichst breites Spektrum künstlerischer Werdegänge aufzuzeigen, weshalb sowohl aufstrebende als auch bereits etablierte regionale, nationale und internationale Kunstschaffende unterschiedlichen Alters und unterschiedlichen Geschlechts präsentiert werden.
Im direkten und intensiven Austausch mit den jeweiligen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern sollen neue, außergewöhnliche Formate speziell für die unterschiedlichen Räume des Hauses entwickelt werden. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt dabei auf Werken, die gesellschaftspolitisch relevante Fragen stellen oder Perspektiven anderer Disziplinen, etwa der Naturwissenschaften oder der Technik, miteinbeziehen.
Thematische Ausstellungen zu den Sammlungsbeständen ergänzen das Ausstellungsprofil. Der Schwerpunkt der Sammlung ist das druckgrafische Schaffen Pablo Picassos, internationale Fotokunst, herausstechende regionale Kunst sowie die Kunst im öffentlichen Raum.
