Long-distance hikes in Harz

The Harzer Hexen-Stieg runs for 94 km from the town of Osterode in Lower Saxony to the town of Thale in Saxony-Anhalt. On the varied route from the edge of the Harz through the wild mountain landscape of the Harz National Park with the Brocken, you get to know the whole beauty of the Harz.

On nearly 200 km in length, the South Harz Karst Hiking Trail leads from Pölsfeld near Sangerhausen to Bad Grund through an area rich in gypsum rock.

On the Baudensteig, we explore the most beautiful forest inns and mountain guesthouses (Bauden) of the southern Harz. Along the route, independent circular trails (ochre-colored Baudensteig symbol) are repeatedly signposted, allowing us further insights into the wonderful landscape of the Harz Nature Park.

Always along the former inner-German border … over nearly 100 impressive kilometers: the Harz Border Route leads directly to the testimonies of the German division. Sometimes on secluded paths, sometimes on the concrete slabs of the patrol road.

Until 2024, the Harz Monastery Hiking Trail ran between the two World Heritage sites Goslar and Quedlinburg. In spring 2024, the trail will be extended by the 7th stage from Quedlinburg to Halberstadt. The track is already available, and the on-site signposting will be implemented gradually in 2024. Two attractive destinations now enrich the trail: the Cathedral and Cathedral Treasury of Halberstadt, and the Burchardi Monastery - this is where the Monastery Hiking Trail ends/starts. The potential for relaxation for body, mind, and soul is excellently combined with first-class cultural enjoyment – like a string of pearls, hikers and pilgrims experience a diverse landscape of monasteries and churches over approximately 115 km in an unusual density.

On the Selketal-Stieg you experience pure nature and culture on a beautiful route through the Lower Harz. Through the ancestral land of the Anhaltiners, it goes past Falkenstein Castle to the UNESCO World Heritage town of Quedlinburg.

The Harzer Försterstieg opens up to hikers over nearly 60 kilometers the scenic beauty, the diversity of different habitats, as well as the historical special features of the West Harz.
