Geographical location and special features: Preetz is located about 20 kilometres southeast of Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein. The town is surrounded by forests, lakes and rivers and thus offers a breathtaking landscape for outdoor activities such as hiking or cycling. Preetz is also known for its historic buildings, including the 13th century Preetz Monastery and numerous half-timbered houses.

Tourist attractions: A highlight of the town is the aforementioned Preetz Monastery with its impressive architecture and history. Also worth seeing are the 12th century town church "St.Nikolai" and the local history museum in the old railway station. Cultural highlights & events: In the summer months there is a regular arts and crafts market where you can buy local products. The annual town festival attracts many visitors and offers a colourful programme with music acts as well as culinary delights.

Culinary specialities: The region around Preetz is known for its traditional cuisine - fish dishes in particular are very popular here! A must on every menu are Matjesfilets or Labskaus (a dish made of potatoes, beef , onions and beetroot).

Outdoor activities: Preetz offers a variety of outdoor activities, especially hiking and cycling are very popular here. The best seasons for these activities are spring and summer. The lakes in the area invite you to swim or go boating. The Westensee Nature Park is also worth a visit.

Rain days: There is plenty to do in Preetz even in bad weather! The local history museum in the old railway station offers insights into local history as well as art exhibitions. Alternatively, you can visit the indoor swimming pool or watch the rain from a cosy café.
