Das Informations- und Dokumentationszentrum ‚Marineartilleriearsenal Wahlstedt‘ im ehemaligen Wasserwerksbunker zeigt auf 200 qm eine Ausstellung zum Thema ‚Vom Dorf zur Stadt durch das Marineartilleriearsenal‘. Infotafeln führen durch die Zeit von 1937 – 1945 in Wahlstedt. Die gleichen Tafeln finden sich auf dem sogenannten Geschichtspfad durch das Industriegebiet im Südwesten des Ortes. Der Wasserwerksbunker gehörte im Zweiten Weltkrieg zum Gelände des Marinearsenals Fahrenkrug-Wahlstedt. Viele Gebäuse aus dieser Zeit stehen noch und wurden nach Kriegsende von der aufstrebenden Industrie übernommen und ermöglichten die Ansiedlung von Betrieben. Es gab eine Reihe von Arsenalen im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Das Wahlstedter Arsenal ist in Deutschland besonders gut erhalten und vorbildlich für den Übergang in eine friedliche Nutzung. In der großen Ausstellung wird über die Flucht bei Kriegsende informiert, über Lebensmittelmarken, das Wohnen in Baracken und der Neubeginn in altem Gemäuer.
