The unmissable Spartacus circle
Path types
- mostly single-track paths
- small sections of normal dirt road
- the beginning and end of the route, as well as the area around Telgárthy meadow, are asphalted
Effort distribution
In the first half of the distance, we gently descend along the creek. After Telgárthy meadow, there is a steeper climb, and toward the end of the Spartacus Trail, after the single-track path disappears, a particularly strong ascent awaits us.
Recommended period
It can be completed at any time of day. Most of the route is shaded and, due to the fresh air near the creek, running can be pleasant even in summer heat. However, in icy conditions, due to the icy stones and exposure, it is recommended only for those with real experience.
Our trail running column is supported by Dockyard. The route recommender is the legendary Csaba Németh, Hungary’s most successful active trail runner.
Author’s recommendation
- For an extended time, we travel on a single-track path both in the Apátkúti Valley and on the Spartacus Trail. If you plan to run, during the spring and autumn hiking seasons on weekends it is recommended to start early in the morning; otherwise, the numerous overtaking and passing maneuvers can be disturbing for both parties.

Safety information
- On several sections of the Apátkúti Valley, you have to proceed on narrow paths sometimes just shoulder- or even foot-wide, alongside steep creek banks. In other places, you need to balance yourself over wet stones to cross the creek. These are not without risk, so continuous and increased attention is required.
- In the middle section of the Spartacus Trail next to the shoulder-wide path, a steep wall several tens of meters deep leads to the valley. Here a wrong step or stumble can have very serious consequences. Although often the landscape distracts our attention, we must continuously concentrate on the next step to return to the starting point safely.
- There is little or very weak mobile signal on most of the route. This can cause serious problems in the event of an emergency call. Therefore, pay even more attention to the above-mentioned hazards.
Public transport
Public-transport-friendly
- From the bus station in Szentendre, you can take the Volánbusz service number 870 directly to the Pilisszentlászló, Községháza bus stop, reaching the start point of the run.
Directions
- You can get off the bus at the start point of the hike.
Parking
- In the center of the settlement, you can park in several small parking lots or find space even in surrounding streets. Naturally, all this should be done in compliance with traffic rules and without disturbing local residents!
Coordinates
Equipment
- Trail running shoes are recommended because there are several steep and/or rocky sections on the route
- Clothing suitable for the season and weather
- In summer, in warm weather a minimum of 0.5 liter of water (there are water drawing opportunities at the Kaán spring and several pressurized wells)
- For orientation and safety, a mobile phone (note that there is no signal in many places!)
- For navigation, the Természetjáró app.
