SauerlandRadring – on former railway tracks
With a length of 84 kilometers, it mainly appeals to touring cyclists and sporty families. Half of the route runs on former railway tracks. Finnentrop, Eslohe, Schmallenberg, and Lennestadt are the four main places located on the SauerlandRadring and, due to the closed loop – along with many other small villages – serve as optimal starting points. There is no fixed start or end point; you can join at any point, similar to the train system.
Indicators of the railway past are partly preserved along the route: besides old signal systems and wagons, old steam locomotives can also be admired. A special highlight is the famous Kückelheim "Bat Tunnel," waiting for cyclists.
Thanks to the routing on former railway tracks, it is possible to enjoy the views in the land of a thousand hills without breaking a sweat. Cyclists encounter a maximum gradient of 3% on the developed sections.
