On the MöhnetalRadweg, touring cyclists can experience Sauerland without climbs. South of the Haarstrang, the route always follows the small river Möhne and thus connects the old Hanseatic city of Brilon, the source, and the mouth into the Ruhr in Arnsberg-Neheim over 65 kilometers in a very pleasant way.

On the route, you can discover many things: besides attractive places, the Möhnetal presents itself from its most beautiful side. Floodplain landscapes with lush meadows, green forests, and gentle hills shape the picture during the route. And the Möhnetal is changing: through the "Möhne Life" project, parts of the floodplain have been renaturalized. Flowering valley meadows and light floodplain forests are being restored for many animal and plant species of the mid-mountain valleys and will offer cyclists an even greater nature experience in the future.

Railway trail enthusiasts also get their money’s worth because large parts of the MöhnetalRadweg run completely level on a former railway track.

The scenic highlight is the Möhnesee, one of the largest reservoirs in North Rhine-Westphalia. The route leads along both its south and north shores and offers pure nature. Furthermore, the impressive and over 100-year-old dam wall, which is still the heaviest monument in North Rhine-Westphalia, offers a great view over the lake.

In Arnsberg-Neheim, cyclists experience a contrast compared to the rest of the route: the attractive shopping city offers urban life directly on the Ruhr. Perfect for recharging.

    Author’s recommendation

As part of the renaturation project "Möhne Life", 13 rest and information points were created along the cycle path, inviting you to linger.

Schlecht Ausgeschildert. Sehr lange Abschnitte direkt an den Bundesstraßen.
