FFC cycling route no. 18: The right bank loop
A ride on little frequented roads used by local cyclists but with a total approaching 2,000 m of positive climbs!
The route passes through many medieval villages perched above the Var valley. The itinerary allows discovering Bonson, quite unknown. It is located on a foothill of mount Vial, at the top of the promontory is an old military fortress overlooking the Var valley and the Estéron valley from the top of a rocky spur over 400 meters high. Access is via the Bréa road, the sacred road of the Alpes-Maritimes that leads to the Saint-Benoît church.
Then, the road to Roquestéron passes by old stations whose buildings are still standing: Collebelle, Vescous, Pierrefeu, Vallon le Rac, thus recalling the commissioning in 1924 of the railway line between Pont-Charles-Albert and Roquestéron. The line was quickly downgraded (1929) and the rails removed.
