FFC bike circuit no. 8: the 70.3 circuit (Half IRONMAN)
Experienced athletes can take on the cycling course of the 2019 edition of the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships (half the distance of a full Ironman), with the ascent of the mythical col de Vence (963 m).
This route was created by Yves Cordier, a former European triathlon champion.
It offers true athletes the chance to climb the mythical Col de Vence (963 m) and to discover along lightly traveled roads the first villages of the Préalpes d'Azur Regional Natural Park. Rocky outcrops, dry heathland, valleys, forested areas, and cultivated or grazed plains alternate from the summit of Col de Vence, passing through Coursegoules, Bézaudun-les-Alpes, Bouyon, and Le Broc.
The return to the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur opens onto Carros village, a medieval town with its lanes and castle. The old fully renovated castle houses the international center for contemporary art. At the top of the village, there is also an orientation table, at the foot of the old mill, allowing visitors to discover a grand panorama of the Var valley, the mountains, and the sea.

BASIC RULES
- Choose a circuit adapted to your physical condition, do not overestimate your abilities
- Remember to carry an identity card and a number to call in case of danger
- Respect traffic lights
- Preferentially use cycle paths when they exist
- In other words: a sign may require you to use them. If the "cycle path" sign is square: you decide. If it is round, you must use this route compulsorily.
- Respect the environment and other road users
GOOD PRACTICES FOR RIDING IN GROUPS
- Riding two abreast is allowed, but switching to single file is required:
- at dusk or in low visibility
- when a vehicle wanting to overtake signals approach
- In case of breakdown, move to the side of the road and not the roadway
- At a “Stop”, yellow light, fixed or flashing red light, make a full stop for the entire group.
- Communicate within the group using verbal and gestural language to signal obstacles or vehicles. A simple gesture or word can prevent a fall or accident.
