From the village located on the road to the Col de Châteauneuf overlooking the Paillon valley, the route invites you to descend along the lightly traveled Métropolitaine road to Contes then to the Gravel starting point. From this place called la Bégude, the Ciauric trail and that of mont Macaron will allow you to reach the airy ridge of mont Macaron (806 m) which stretches towards the South, offering a thorough discovery of the former County of Nice whose villages dot valleys and hills around the Azurean capital. Perched at 750 meters on a strategic eminence, the Chapel St.Joseph first and then the ruins of Châteauneuf will announce the pass (625 m) and the return to the starting point below.

A classic that's easily accessible from Nice to the lower slopes. One of the trails leads to the Châteauneuf ruins (750 m), the highest point on the route. The balcony trail, sometimes descending, sometimes ascending, leads to the Chapelle St-Joseph. The vast Sauréa farm (pig breeding) can be seen below. The small asphalt road over the Col de Châteauneuf, towards Tourrette-Levens, takes us back to medieval villages overlooking the Var valley, further west of Nice.

The ascent of the Malagratta and Brasca trails up to the Mantégas vacheries are sublime variants on the way to the mythical Col de Turini on the side of the village of La Bollène-Vésubie. At the top of the pass, the itinerary offers the Authion loop, an exceptional natural and cultural route in the heart of the Mercantour National Park. The panoramic views along the way are exceptional, allowing you to admire the eastern part of the Mercantour massif and the final foothills of the Alps plunging towards the Mediterranean. First by the Tardei trail, then by the metropolitan road, ending with an all-downhill return to the banks of the Vésubie.
