
Route Options
Several options are available to allow you to influence the system's routing engine when planning your trips
Where to find 'Route options'
You will find 'Route options' below the list of waypoints when using the Route Planner on both the website and app. The route options can also be found via the 3-dot menu at the top right of the screen in the app's Route Planner.
What options are available?
Closures
By default, any sections of the trail network that are closed at the time are excluded from your route planning. This means that if the "Ignore closures when planning" option is deactivated, the system will automatically generate routes that avoid closures. These closures are displayed in the Route Planner as an area or marked path and denoted by an icon. They can also be accessed via the "Notices & Closures" map layer. Closure periods can be determined by clicking on the icon.
By activating the "Ignore closures when planning" option, any trails that are closed at the time of planning will be automatically included by the system when generating your route. This setting is recommended, for example, if you are planning a future trip when the trail will have reopened.
Please note that we strongly advise against ignoring active/current closures!
Lifts and Ferries
If you intend to use a lift or ferry as part of your route, you will want to make use of this feature, and while not all options shown on the map are currently available, we continue to add as many as we can to the routing engine. Please note also that there are some differences between the Outdooractive map and Open Street Map and that the activity you have selected might also affect which lifts and ferries are available to you when planning. For example, not every ferry will transport bikes or cars. Lifts may also have restrictions on taking bikes.
Activating these options allow you to easily see which lifts and/or ferries can be used for planning by highlighting them on the map: pink for lifts and blue for ferries.
In some cases, the highlighted lift or ferry may not be included in the planning even though the option is activated. In this case, simply place an intermediate point on the desired lift or ferry service.
Please be certain the check opening hours of lifts and ferry schedules before embarking on your trip. Some lifts already have this information available on our system which can be accessed by clicking on the interactive lift icon.
