The stage runs from Iitti church village through the straits around Hiidensaari to the Kimola Canal and lively Vuolenkoski village. Along the route, there is cultural history and beautiful scenery.

Stage 2 of the Merikotka route takes you to explore the different islands of maritime Salo such as the islands of Särkisalo including Isoluoto, Ulkoluoto, and Pettu, as well as the relaxed archipelago life.

The water route around Finland's largest maritime island, Kemiönsaari, runs through the areas of three municipalities: Salo, Kemiönsaari, and Parainen. The Merikotka route can be done by motorboat and sailing boat, kayaking, and SUP boarding, or even rowing. The fifth stage of the Lahti-Kymijoki-Kimolankanava paddling route starts from Vuolenkoski and ends back in Lahti. The stage initially follows the Kymijoki River and continues back to Lahti.
