The Väliväylä paddling route follows the old log floating route, through which logs were floated from Saimaa to the Kymijoki water system for 70 years. In 2023-2024, services on Väliväylä between Lappeenranta and Kannuskoski (South Karelia region) have been improved in many ways, including building 22 new paddling piers. Resting places have been added; several lean-tos, toilets, and woodsheds have been built.
New start and end points have been marked on the map, and since resting places are spaced about 5 km apart, you can plan your own route according to your needs.
The route between Lappeenranta and Kannuskoski is an easy lake and narrows waterway. It can be paddled in both directions and is well suited for family paddling due to the short stages!
