The Unstrut is a leisurely hiking river suitable for beginners and families. The river is navigable from Straußfurt, and from Artern no more portaging at weirs is necessary, as locks are available. The Unstrut flows into the Saale in Naumburg and forms a pillar of the canoeing area in southern Saxony-Anhalt.

Disembark on foot or by bike along the Kobersfelsen and Burgk Castle through the impressive nature reserve in the Thuringian Slate Mountains/Upper Saale Nature Park.
