Cross-country skiing in the Black Forest

If you want to enjoy a varied landscape and picturesque panoramas while cross-country skiing, the Black Forest is the place to be. The region is a centre for cross-country skiing with many cross-country skiing centres. Many trails lead you through wooded areas to beautiful vantage points. The Sonnenloipe falls into this category. It is 10 kilometres long and takes you along snow-covered open spaces and the edge of the Black Forest. It is best to take 1.5 hours for this tour. There are groomed trails for the classic technique as well as a skating trail.

The „Winter - Herrischried: Ödland-Loipe“ also scores with exciting, wooded areas. This tour is considered difficult, but the slopes are well prepared. You can cross-country ski here in a varied landscape, while enjoying the view of the Swiss Alps in good weather. The length of the trail is 16.6 kilometres - so take at least 3.5 hours to complete it. You will cover more than 400 metres of altitude on this trail.

In the Black Forest you will find some of the most beautiful and popular cross-country trails in Germany. These include the „Thurnerspur classic trail“. It is 15.6 kilometres long, although you also have the option of shortening the trail to 8, 10 or 12 kilometres. You should plan on 4.5 hours for the full length of the cross-country trail. As the route is at an altitude of over 1,000 metres, it is snow-sure. It is also considered one of the most beautiful cross-country ski tours in Germany. So if you are in the Black Forest, you should definitely consider this route.

With picturesque views of the region, cross-country trails such as the Todtnauberg Kapellenrunde are impressive. The route has a total length of 12 kilometres - you will be on the trail for around 4 hours. You will climb around 250 metres of altitude on the route, whereby you will not only have to be prepared for extreme climbs, but also for steeper descents.

If you not only want to enjoy cross-country skiing on your holiday, but also culture, you should take a detour to Freiburg in Breisgau. You will find buildings from all eras of the city's history. A visit to the old town is especially recommended. There you will find, among other things, the Freiburg Münster, the city's landmark, the historic department stores' dating from 1532, the Alte Münsterbauh“, Freiburg's oldest surviving building, and the hotel-restaurant „Zum roten Bären“.
