Cross-country skiing in the Allgäu

With its high peaks, the Oberallgäu has a lot to offer, especially for skiers and ski tourers. But cross-country skiers don't miss out here either: the mountain world can be enjoyed to the full on panoramic cross-country ski trails. In the northern part of Upper Allgäu around the largest town of Kempten, you will find cross-country trails in Ermengerst and at the Bachtelweiher pond just outside the town.

South of Kempten lies the Rottachsee. There, the circuit from Wachsenegg to Winkel is floodlit on weekdays until 9 pm. A technically less demanding route is the Alpenblickloipe in Moosbach with a view of the snow-covered summit of the Grünten. At the border to the Tannheimer Tal, a circular course is open for sporty skiers, where the Ski Trail is held every year.

There are numerous cross-country ski trails around the spa town of Oberstaufen, which are used for skating and classic rounds. Beginners will find themselves on the Hündle trail, which runs from Oberstaufen through the Konstanz valley to Thalkirchdorf. The Kalzhofer trail is floodlit until 8.30 pm every day. The Ratholz trail runs along the Konstanzer Ach to Ratholz and back. Perfect for beginners and families is the Moosloipe through the idyllic Moos area with only 10 hm over a total distance of 3.5 km.

The H rnerd rfer near Fischen offer their long-distance skiers a successful range of cross-country trails with the Balderschwanger Gschwendloipe and the Langlauf Sonnenalp. The scenically very varied Gschwendloipe runs across the Austrian border to neighbouring Hittisau. The route can either be completed as a circuit or you can take the bus for the return journey. The Sonnenalprunde is groomed for classic and skating skiing. Use is free of charge all day. The route is connected to the cross-country skiing network of Bolsterlang and Fischen, so that the 8 km route can be extended as required.

In Unterallgäu, cross-country skiers will find mainly flat trails around Bad Grönenbach and Bad Wörishofen. The Bad Grönenbach trail is both classic and freestyle and is 9.6 kilometres long. The trail is suitable for beginners and advanced skiers and can be shortened to 5 kilometres. The Moosbergloipe starts on the outskirts of Bad Wörishofen. The classic loop has a total length of 10.7 km.
