„King“ of the primeval mountains and at the same time one of the most beautiful ski touring areas is the Große Arber. For example, you have to climb and descend several times on a ski tour to the Arber. There are several different ways to conquer the summit, one more difficult than the other, in difficulty levels ranging from easy to medium.
If you are looking for an unusual – and also very challenging – tour, then the multi-day ski tour on the ridge of the Bavarian Forest is recommended. This tour is only for men - but then you will be rewarded for the gruelling journey with beautiful views and deserted passages.

The ski tour from Bodenmais to the Kleiner Arber is a little easier and much shorter: it takes around three hours and covers around 600 metres of altitude. From the summit, you have a wonderful all-round view – and even on the way, the view of the Großer Arber accompanies you. A visit to the Chamer Hütte is a good place to stop for a bite to eat.

Before you set off on a tour, there are a few things you need to consider for your own protection and that of nature. So that you can enjoy the powder on the mountain slopes in the Bavarian Forest for a long time to come, we urge you to abide by the rules.
- Stay away from restricted areas: Do not put yourself in danger and leave the creatures in these areas alone.
- The ski touring routes are off-limits at night: firstly, it is very dangerous for you in the dark, as it is easy to misjudge the terrain; secondly, this measure also serves to protect nature. At night it can regenerate and then shows itself again in its full beauty during the day.
- Avalanches: Inform yourself on site about the condition of the snow and the current risk situation. Bring avalanche equipment and know how to handle it.
- Self-assessment: Stay realistic! On ski tours, you must be able to stand safely on your skis and deal with different terrain conditions.
