Gravel bike routes in Carinthia

The region around Lake Wörthersee discovered gravel biking very early on and has developed some exciting routes. At the heart of these routes are the region's "lost places". In addition to 1A gravel routes, you can also discover exciting places here that you would never have visited otherwise!

In 2024, Lake Wörthersee was also the venue for a mega gravel event. The UCI Wörthersee Gravel Race celebrated its premiere and was a great success with a large number of participants. The route is partly based on the official routes of the region and can therefore also be ridden in large parts away from the event. In addition to the cool range of gravel routes that lead to Lake Faak, Villach and the Rosental valley, there is of course also plenty of fun to be had at the lake. A gravel holiday here is definitely worthwhile!

Lake Weissensee is not only the highest bathing lake in Carinthia, but also a paradise for outdoor activities. The network of trails may not be as extensive as elsewhere, but the routes right by the lake are a scenic dream and those who like to spice up their gravel tours with sections on the road can also include the Drautal and Lesachtal valleys in their tours. The gravel routes around the lake are based on the official mountain bike routes, so thicker tires are certainly not a bad idea. Away from cycling, Lake Weissensee is a water paradise and the perfect place to switch off and recharge your batteries. You should have done it once.

Lake Millstätter See is a particularly good starting point for gravel tours. On the one hand, there are many beautiful laps around the lake - the big highlight is certainly the beautiful route on the southern shore, which is constantly up and down, but on fine natural paths. On the other hand, the location is also ideal for exploring other regions and lakes. If you are looking for tours away from the tourist hotspots, then take a look at the tours in the Central Carinthia region. Between Gurktal and Glantal as well as Friesach, the oldest town in Carinthia, you will find a tranquil area with many interesting route options. One of these takes you through the Wimitz Valley to the idyllic Lake Goggausee, which is considered one of the colder bathing lakes in Carinthia. Traffic-free roads, good food and interesting towns: the region also has plenty to offer its guests away from exciting cycle routes.
