Road cycling routes the Black Forest

The Black Forest has long been geared towards road cycling and has created a symbiosis with the breathtaking nature. The region is one of the sunniest and warmest in Germany, which is why many of the designated cycling routes are also passable in winter. From challenging tours up mountains and over hilly terrain to road cycling on flat routes, you will find everything you could wish for as a road cyclist in the Black Forest.

On extensive road bike tours with many metres of altitude, you can combine the breathtaking mountain passes such as Feldberg, Kandel, Hornisgrinde or Schauinsland or undertake individual mountain tours. Countdown signs show you how far it is to the finish and how steep the next kilometre is. Along the way, free service stations, charging stations and cycle-friendly refreshment stops provide you with everything your heart desires, and when you reach the summit, you can enjoy a fantastic panorama of the Black Forest.

The signposted racing bike routes up the peaks and summits in the Black Forest are ideal training terrain for professionals and provide amateur cyclists with the greatest riding pleasure in the midst of stunning nature. One of the most beautiful routes is the Black Forest mountain stage Schauinsland 1,200m. From Freiburg, the serpentine roads wind steadily uphill to the pass road. The gradient is moderate and runs over 765 metres of altitude.

The Freiburger Hausberg in the south of Baden-Württemberg really lives up to its name, from the lookout tower on the summit you can enjoy the unique panorama of the surrounding Black Forest mountains, from the Rhine valley to the Vosges and as far as the Swiss Alps after the exertions of racing cycling.Racing cyclists who are in good shape and want to enjoy the great views can combine two routes on the racing bike tours via Stohren to the Schauinsland from Badenweiler.

• Feldberg (1,493 m) - The climb up to the highest peak in the Black Forest has a gradient of up to 20%.

• Hornisgrinde (1,150 m) - Road cyclists can perfectly combine the ascent with the panoramic and difficult round „Quer durch den Schwarzwald auf die Hornisgrinde".

• Kandel (1,241 m) - one of the toughest climbs in the Black Forest with an impressive view at the Kandel Pass.

• Texaspass (385 m) - short and crisp, here is the road cycling also in winter möglich.

The Black Forest Panorama Cycle Route is ideal for families, nature lovers, culture enthusiasts and gourmets. The 286-kilometre tour runs for several days from Pforzheim to Waldshut-Tiengen on paved cycle paths through valleys and over scenic high plateaus. The entire route includes approx. 2,100 metres of ascent, but you can also complete the route in individual stages.
