The concentrated variety of Tyrolean MTB tours

Tyrol impresses with its large number of excellently maintained and diverse mountain bike trails. Here, great importance is attached to ensuring that everyone - from experts to beginners, from lone wolves to outdoor-loving families - has a great experience on two wheels. Once around the lake or up to lofty heights? Whichever starting point you choose, you're guaranteed a fantastic view.

Both purely downhill-orientated and sweat-inducing uphill mountain biking is possible between Innsbruck and the Kitzbühel Alps. Over 6,000 km of officially authorised routes guarantee pure biking pleasure. And new trails are added every year. The mountain bike tours vary in length and duration, depending on whether you want to spend more or less time on the saddle, the perfect route awaits you in Tyrol. There are also variants of the most popular routes to meet your requirements.

Multi-day mountain bike tours in Tyrol

Do you want to spend several days on your bike in Tyrol? No problem, as there are numerous organised multi-day tours. One particular highlight is the so-called "Bikeschaukel Tirol". This circular tour offers MTB riders who want a mix of exertion and pleasure while enjoying the wonderful landscape an ideal solution for combining everything. 15,000 of the total 32,000 metres in altitude can be covered by mountain railway. In this way, 780 kilometres can be covered in stages of moderate difficulty.

You can go even further on the Bike Trail Tirol. The longest continuous MTB circuit is divided into 32 stages and 27,000 metres in altitude have to be conquered. You really have to like riding uphill and be in good physical condition - but don't worry, every ascent is followed by a descent that will make your heart beat faster. Other, somewhat shorter options for a multi-day tour are the KAT Trail in the Kitzbühel Alps and the multi-day tour through the Alpbach Valley.

With a stop at the alpine huts

Under a bright blue sky, between lush green pastures and next to icy mountain streams, only one thing can crown the perfect mountain bike tour: an original Tyrolean snack on a mountain pasture. Anyone who has pedalled hard beforehand needs to recharge their batteries afterwards. The Tyrolean Aml hosts will serve you hearty bacon, well-cured Alpine cheese and Kaiserschmarren pancakes. The Fleckalm Trail in the Kitzbühel Alps near Kirchberg in Tyrol offers the ideal combination of technical challenge on Tyrol's longest single trail - it leads you to a culinary reward at the Fleck Alm. In Lermoos, at Plansee or in Alpbachtal, your efforts are also rewarded at the mountain huts after every tour.

Feel the flow of the single trails in Tyrol

More than 300 kilometres on over 115 single trails (with an upward trend every year) require technical skills. The downhill-orientated routes impress with their incredible flow and are pure fun for downhillers and freeriders. In the singletrail strongholds of Sölden, Kirchberg, Nauders, Gerlos, Innsbruck and Seefeld, Lermoos and Serfaus/Fiss, the feelings of happiness increase as the routes literally lead over hill and dale. Maximum concentration is required on the challenging 4.2 km long "Nordkette Singletrail" at high speed. Preparatory and ideal for beginners, the Lisi-Osl-Trail and the Arzler Alm Trail.

Jumps, tight turns and slippery roots require the right technique. A mobile posture, weight transfer and braking technique play essential roles here. The local Tyrolean MTB guides will give you useful tips and skilfully introduce beginners to mountain biking. In addition, the bike and equipment can increase safety and riding fun enormously. Ask the specialist dealer of your choice for advice on the right fully and the necessary protectors so that you can hit the trails without any worries.

Which bike parks are there in Tyrol?

In Bikepark Tirol in Wipptal, in the family-friendly park in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis or in Innsbruck, (future) MTB pros can let off steam and get useful information from the guides on site. The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena has also been home to the Lermoos Skill Area (difficulty levels S1-S3) since 2019, where you can test the different levels of difficulty.

Bike parks are a great place to refine your riding technique. You can hone your skills in the various sections of the course before conquering the natural trails.

However, the parks are particularly appealing to adrenaline junkies who want to enjoy downhill mountain biking - the mountain lifts take bikes and bikers to the top in comfort. The descent is modified with man-made obstacles such as jumps, steep bends, bridges and drops. If you want to get down there, you need a good dose of courage, but you will be rewarded with one adrenaline rush after another.

The Tyrolean bike parks offer trails of varying degrees of difficulty. You can use the classification as a guide:

  • Easy = blue
  • Moderate = red
  • Difficult = black
  • Bike Park · Region Innsbruck
    Bikepark Innsbruck
  • Bike Park · Steinach am Brenner
    Bikepark Tirol
  • Bike Park · Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis
Serfaus-Fiss Ladis bike park and bike school
  • Bike Park · Zugspitz Arena Tyrol
    Bikepark und Skill Area Lermoos

Echt ein lässiges Abenteuer. Man sollte jedoch eine Portion Humor bzw. Resistenz mitbringen. So richtig ins Fahren kommt man erst am Fleckalmtrail. Der Schlänkerer Richtung Gamsbeil ist entbehrlich. Besser gleich zur Herrensteigscharte raufpushen.
