As one of the nine federal states of Austria, Styria stretches across the south-east of the country. Large parts of the "Grünen Mark" are criss-crossed by the Alps and are thus a paradise for mountain bikers. Schladming-Dachstein in particular offers top MTB trails. Whether exciting downhill routes and daring single trails or beginner-friendly tours with the whole family – a homemade Styrian snack almost always beckons as a reward on the alpine pasture in Styria.

Mountain biking in Schladming-Dachstein

The Schladming-Dachstein region has the largest interconnected network of mountain bike trails in Styria. There is something for everyone, especially for single trail fans. The most exciting descents can be found on the Reiteralm or in the Bikepark Schladming. From flow trails and downhill lines to beginner areas: the two bike parks are very versatile.

A highlight of the Dachstein region is the Grassl Trail: after you have mastered the challenging ascent of over 100 m, the 1.87 km long downhill tour starts into the valley. In between, it's worth taking a break in nature - with the best photo motif you can find.

Things are also family-friendly outside the park. The 26 tours in the region vary from easy to moderately difficult and offer lots of fun for the kids.

Around Graz: culture and MTB trails

With an old town that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Graz itself is worth a visit. In addition, the MTB tours all around are a delight. The Enzi Trail, a 19 km long mountain bike route, starts north of Graz at Hilmteich and leads to Stephanienwarte over root passages and smaller jumps. The popular Westside Trails at Plabutsch impress with two rapid descents, Knight-Rider and Short-West.

Is there a bike park in Graz?

Stattegg in the north of Graz is home to a legendary bike park: the trail area on the Schöckl has long been a fixed point in Styria for downhill and enduro MTB and is particularly popular with professionals due to its challenging trails. The area around the 1445-metre-high mountain offers several single trails, most of which are classified as difficult. You can get up the mountain under your own steam or by cable car. There is also a skill area where anyone new to biking can learn the right riding technique.

Mountain biking in Hochsteiermark

The Hochsteiermark region in the north-east of Styria has become a popular destination for mountain bikers. Here you will find everything from enduro trails to family-friendly tours up to the mountain pastures. In terms of scenery, the tour to the Schneealpe is certainly one of the most beautiful that Styria has to offer. In Bruck an der Mur, trail fans get their money's worth on the Schweiz UNeben Trail. Quite a few claim that it is the most beautiful trail in Austria.

Further north, the Aflenzer Bürgeralm is a great destination for biking and relaxing. With the AB-Trail, the Flowtrail and the Windgrubentrail, there are several kilometers here that you can enjoy by bike. You can also explore the wonderful landscape south of the Ötscher on your bike around Mariazell. An insider tip is the Josiberg Trails nearby, which have been lovingly created.

Dream tours in the Ausseerland - Salzkammergut

The Ausseerland, the Styrian part of the Salzkammergut, is a popular biking area and is without doubt one of the most scenic corners of Austria. The tours around Altausseer See and Grundlsee are particularly popular.

Many of the MTB tours, such as the popular Raschberg tour, cross the border into Upper Austria. On these tours, you can visit places such as Hallstatt, Bad Goisern and Bad Ischl. A dip in the cool waters of Lake Hallstatt is also possible. Those who like to steer their bikes down challenging trails into the valley will get their money's worth on the newly built Augst Trail on the Loser. If you can't get enough of biking in Ausseerland and Salzkammergut, you can add the BergeSeen eTrail to your list.

Which bike parks are there in Styria?

If you prefer to ride downhill on your mountain bike, then a visit to the Styrian bike parks is worthwhile. The largest bike park is located in Schladming, where nothing is left to be desired. The neighboring Reiteralm also offers a wide range of trails, from enduro trails to jumplines. Other places where you can collect plenty of vertical meters thanks to the gondola or shuttle are the Schöckl, Aflenz and Präbichl. In this collection, we give you an overview of the bike parks and legal trails in the province.

Coole Tour. Manchmal etwas abenteuerlich, weil ein paar Wegerln echt gut versteckt sind und ursprünglich sicher nicht für Radfahrer gedacht waren. Aber echt schöne Gegend, super entspanntes Radlfahren.

Dreipfeilerweg: Gravel route Radlpass - Zweibach - Laaken - Soboth by Punchy

Man muss schieben da viele Äste liegen. Dann fährt man noch ein Stück über eine Forststraße, die erneuert wurde. Also illegal.
