Immediately after leaving Ovieto there are a series of hairpin bends in the road. The trail map shows a shortcut between the loops which we took, and soon regretted. See my screenshot of the map. This shortcut is completely overgrown with weeds, bushes and thorns with steep and irregular ground. It is highly unpleasant, difficult and dangerous to negotiate. At the bottom of that slope the exit, a broken gate, is on the left.
DO NOT TAKE THIS SHORT PATH! Stick to the road until clear of it.
The rest of today’s route is delightful.
