Great route, for the most part. The two small summits (Birkrigg and Hampsfell) offer amazing views of the estuary and the fells on a clear day. Be mindful that this is not a well-maintained route (at least not when I hiked it, Jan 2025) and involves negotiating broken stiles and locked farm gates. I did the route after a few days of heavy snowfall, so the ground was frozen; however in usual conditions expect very boggy and even flooded paths, especially between Rampside and Dalton-in-Furness. Also be aware that many of the places along the route are likely to be closed outside of tourist season, especially mid-week. I would recommend this as a 2-day hike, ending Day 1 around Great Urswick. I would also recommend ending at Grange-over-Sands as I did.
