Long-distance hikes the Black Forest

The Westweg takes us from Pforzheim to Basel. On the western variant described here, we cross the highest mountain of all the German low mountain ranges, the Feldberg.

The Mittelweg is a popular and scenic long-distance north-south hiking route through the Black Forest from Pforzheim to Waldshut-Tiengen at the Swiss border, which can be covered in nine daily stages. 

The Schwarzwald-Ostweg from Pforzheim to Schaffhausen is a north-south long-distance hiking route through the Black Forest, approximately 245 km long, which can be completed in twelve daily stages.

Hiking 119 km across the Southern Black Forest Nature Park past roaring waterfalls, on viewing platforms, through breathtaking gorges and dramatic valley landscapes.

The Kandelhöhenweg is a scenic multi-day route of about 110 km from Oberkirch across the Kandel to the vibrant university town of Freiburg im Breisgau. At 1241 m above sea level, the Kandel is the highest mountain in the Central Black Forest.

Castles, palaces and chapels sit enthroned between the vineyards, small wine-growing villages with picturesque half-timbered houses are strung together like pearls, and locals and guests "sit" in front of the wine taverns over wine and snacks: physical activity and enjoyable discovery go hand in hand on the Ortenau Wine Trail. The 120-kilometre-long wine trail begins in Gernsbach in the Murg Valley and leads via Baden-Baden through the vineyards on the western edge of the Black Forest to Gengenbach and Diersburg south of Offenburg.

The Schwarzwaldverein long-distance trail connects the Black Forest with the Baar region and Lake Constance in five stages.

The hiking route covers 83 km through the Alb valley along the lively little river from Albbruck on the High Rhine to the roof of the Southern Black Forest, to Feldberg and Herzogenhorn.
